From Genesis to Revelation, we see that the Bible draws our attention to the Kingdom of God. In Genesis 1:26, God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness [our = Trinity]. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” Right in the beginning of Genesis, the first book of the Bible, God reveals how he creates Adam and Eve and assigns them dominion over all that he had created on the Earth. Genesis 2:15 states that “The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.” At the time, they were not doing it out of punishment for sin, but rather, for fruitfulness and multiplication in the garden of Eden. Unfortunately, we all know about the great downfall that immediately took place, which led to the fallen world we now live in (something to do with a serpent, a forbidden fruit, and a deceitful idea).
Anyway, skipping to the very last book in the Bible, we see that in Revelation 1:5-7, John refers to Jesus Christ as “the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” In addressing Jesus as so, he is establishing the rule and reign of Christ on the Earth and in Heaven equally. In doing so, he makes it clear that though Jesus walked on earth as human as man can be, He was still the King of kings and fully God.
David praises the Lord saying, “You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet,” in Psalm 8:6. While God is the King, we are co-laborers with Him as His Sons and Daughters. This is the reality of our relationship with Him. We are to carry out our calling, the works which He designed for us to do, the greater things in store for us. However, this takes guts. Understanding the mandate on our hands is crucial as this is no ordinary assignment. It is the kind of thing only you can do because nobody else was created like you kind of duty. In other words, if you do not do it, nobody else will.
Often times, we get into the thought-process that if I pass up an idea, somebody else can take it on. While God can get it done another way, it would be plan B, C, or Z but it would never be plan A. It does not take a lot of research or a doctorate degree to figure out that plan A is the ideal one always! We must remember that we were made to worship and serve Him, not the other way around as we would like to sometimes imagine. Therefore, when given the opportunity, it is best to be in obedience rather than waiting to have all your ducks in a row first. So, if you have been waiting for a sign, here is it: God asked YOU to do something for Him!
We all have the same task: they just look different from person to person because we were created uniquely. The task is merely the Great Commission, each of us are to do it with the power of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:18-20 “Then Jesus came to them and said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
This week, let us be intentional about our assignments, our relationships, and our prayers. We are Kingdom Kind and we have the authority over the spirits of darkness. Are we moving according to the leadings of the Holy Spirit? Are we reacting to our flighty feelings? Are we filtering every single thought through the Holy Spirit? To reign with Him is to serve His Kingdom. As co-heirs with Christ, we must get into the pattern of partnering with Him in all these areas of our lives for His will to be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.
